Military Moving Questions
Straight answers to the questions customers ask most.
What is a PCS move?
A Permanent Change of Station (PCS) is a military relocation from one duty station to another, which usually means moving your household.
What is a PPM, or DITY move?
A Personally Procured Move (PPM), formerly called a DITY move, is a move you arrange yourself, either on your own or by hiring a moving company, and may be reimbursed for under your branch’s rules. When you hire America’s Relocation for a PPM, we perform the move and provide documentation from it.
Will my PPM be reimbursed?
Reimbursement is decided by the government under your entitlements and the official rules, not by America’s Relocation, and we can’t guarantee it. Talk to your installation’s transportation office before your move and keep all of your receipts and weight records.
What documents should I keep for a PPM?
Typically your orders, weight documentation and receipts. Your transportation office will confirm exactly what you need. We’ll provide the invoice and weight records from your move.
How early should I contact you after receiving orders?
As soon as you have your orders and report date. Summer is the busiest PCS season, so earlier is better.
Can you store our belongings while we wait for housing?
Yes, storage in our warehouse is available when needed. Learn more about storage.
Can you move our vehicle as well?
Yes. Vehicle transportation can be coordinated with your move. Vehicle shipping entitlements are separate, so check with your transportation office. See Vehicle Transportation.
Are you affiliated with the military or the government?
No. America’s Relocation is a private, veteran-owned moving company and is not affiliated with the U.S. government or the Department of Defense.
