Why Planning Matters

The Hardest Part of a Long-Distance Move Is Coordination

Distance turns small details into big ones. A clear plan keeps your move on track from the first box to the last.

What makes interstate moves stressful

  • Dates that don’t line upClosing, lease and start dates rarely match perfectly.
  • Hundreds of miles of travelFurniture and boxes need to be protected for a long trip, not a short drive.
  • Unclear costsIt’s hard to know what affects the price of a long-distance move.
  • Too many moving partsPacking, storage and a vehicle can mean juggling several providers.

How America’s Relocation helps

  • One plan for the whole moveWe review your dates, inventory and destination before moving day.
  • Careful wrapping and loadingFurniture is padded and wrapped, and the load is secured for the trip.
  • Straight answers on costWe explain what drives your price and put your estimate in writing.

FAQs

Long-Distance Moving Questions

Straight answers to the questions customers ask most.

How far in advance should I book a long-distance move?

As early as you can. Many customers reach out four to eight weeks ahead, and earlier is better for summer moves and the end of the month, when demand is highest. Booking early gives you more choice of dates.

How is the cost of a long-distance move calculated?

The main factors are the size or weight of your shipment, the distance, and the services you add, such as packing, crating, storage or a shuttle truck. Access at each home matters too, including stairs, elevators and long walks to the truck. We explain what affects your price and give you a written estimate before your move.

How long does a long-distance move take?

It depends on the distance, the size of your shipment and the schedule. We discuss an expected delivery timeframe with you while planning your move and keep you updated along the way.

Can you pack everything for me?

Yes. We offer full packing, partial packing for selected rooms or fragile items, and unpacking at your new home. See Packing & Unpacking for details.

What can’t go on the moving truck?

Hazardous or flammable items such as gasoline, propane, paint and many cleaning chemicals can’t be moved, and perishable food and plants usually shouldn’t be. We recommend keeping important documents, medications, jewelry and other valuables with you. We’ll go over the full list while planning your move.

Can you store my belongings if my new home isn’t ready?

Yes. We operate our own warehouse, so your belongings can be stored between pickup and delivery. Ask about storage when you request your quote. Learn more about storage.

Can you move my car along with my household goods?

Yes. Vehicle transportation can be coordinated as part of your relocation. See Vehicle Transportation.

How are my belongings protected during the move?

Furniture is padded and wrapped, and the load is secured for travel. For interstate moves, we’ll also explain the protection (valuation) options available for your shipment, and what each one covers, before you book.
